The History and Mission of
University of Utah Federal Credit Union

Our History
Vision, need, and foresight prompted a small group of Professors to start a credit union at the University of Utah in July, 1956. Dr. Roland Stucki, Chairman of the Finance Department (and founding member), has said, “No single person can take credit for organizing and developing the successful University of Utah Credit Union. It was a team effort where different individuals made substantial but different contribution to its success.” The vision of Dr. Stucki and the 11 others who signed the original charter gave birth to what has evolved into a strong, progressive, full-service financial institution.

We are proud of our roots and the continuing beneficial relationship we maintain with the employees and students of the U. In addition to 4 on-campus branch locations we have expanded convenience with another 7 locations placed strategically throughout Salt Lake County. Additional branch expansion can be expected as we strive to meet the needs of our ever growing membership.

Field of Membership
Originally established to serve the employees of the University of Utah, the Credit Union added to its membership the alumni and students of the U. Then, in 2004 we began offering our services to all those living working, going to school, worshipping, or doing volunteer service in Salt Lake County. Membership is also extended to relatives of those who qualify.

Charter and Insurance
The University Credit Union was originally a state chartered organization but now is federally chartered.

Members’ deposits are secured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) an independent federal agency that supervises and insures federal credit unions.

Our Mission
“To encourage and promote thrift among our members by providing a full range of financial services conveniently located near members’ homes and places of employment…and to provide the most advantageous rates for borrowers and savers, prudent to maintaining a financially solvent credit union…as we provide the utmost safety and protection for our members’ deposits.”
